To all our valued patients,

We didn’t think we would be contacting you this quickly, but we have just received information from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), comprised of all state and territory Chief Health Officers and chaired by the Australian Chief Medical Officer.

Below is an excerpt from the advice provided but the AHPPC which will be published shortly and provided to the National Cabinet:

Dental Services

“AHPPC recommends adopting the Managing Covid-19 Guidelines” published by the ADA and implementing a triage system for dental practice. AHPPC recommends that all dental practices implement Level 3 restrictions as outlined in ADA’s guidance. That is, dentists should only perform dental treatments that do not generate aerosols, or where treatment generating aerosols is limited. All routine examinations and treatments should be deferred .This means the use of our high speed drills and scalers."

The government has set an expectation that measures introduced across the board may become more restrictive and continue for an extended period.

We will be available for emergency treatment on a limited basis. Please phone us and leave a message there will be directions on our message bank so please be sure to leave your name and contact number and we will be in touch as soon as we can.

We hope you all stay safe during this period.

Dr Gwendolin Flanagan and team.

Shelly Hygienist

Hi my name is Shelly and I am a dental hygienist at Gwen Flanagan Dental. Born and raised in Newcastle, I entered the dental industry as an assistant. In this time my passion for oral health grew and in 2015 I furthered my career by graduating from Newcastle University with a Bachelor of Oral Health.

I have been working with Gwen and her team since September 2016. My aim is to provide optimum oral health and well-being to my patients. Nothing is more beautiful than to see a person smile and knowing you are the reason behind it. It has been a pleasure working alongside Gwen and her team. I am looking forward to extending my knowledge and experience here.

In my spare time I like to stay fit training in crossfit and weight lifting, as well as spending time with my family and friends.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
