Teeth Whitening

Are you unsatisfied with the colour of your teeth? Many patients express that the reflection they see in the mirror shows teeth that are not as bright as they used to be.

Why Teeth Stain

Teeth have microscopic pores that can absorb colour. Staining can occur for many reasons, including smoking or tobacco use. Your teeth can also become stained by regularly eating certain foods and beverages. Plus, teeth naturally start to darken as you age.

We have a solution!

Professional Teeth Whitening Benefits

Luckily, visiting our office for a professional whitening treatment can improve the appearance of dark, yellow, or brown-stained teeth.

Many patients appreciate a bright smile and opt for professional teeth whitening because it provides benefits that over-the-counter products do not.

  • Professional teeth whitening penetrates the tiny pores in your teeth.
  • Professional teeth whitening is generally safer and more effective.
  • Applicator trays in pharmacy kits often do not fit well.
  • Whitening pastes may be abrasive and cause sensitivity.

For these reasons, you may want to choose professional whitening instead. The whitening service provided by your dentist may consist of two phases – an in-office whitening session and a customised at-home kit to follow up.

We will take a before-and-after shade to measure your results.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

Your dentist will choose whitening gel in the appropriate strength for your case, while accounting for factors like your level of sensitivity and your desired results.

This gel is typically applied using custom-made applicator trays for maximum comfort and also to protect the tissues in your mouth from becoming irritated by the whitening gel.

You can expect to see improvement in one office visit!

Custom At-Home Teeth Whitening

If you prefer to whiten your teeth at your convenience, your dentist may provide you with a custom at-home whitening kit. Your applicator trays will be made just for you, and the strength of the whitening gel will be chosen to meet your needs. You will be given specific instructions for how to use it safely and to avoid side effects.

After this kind of whitening treatment, you will typically be asked to schedule a follow-up visit with our office to check on your progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

It shouldn't, but if you have certain conditions, such as gum recession, we may need to alter your treatment.

Most professional whitening products contain a desensitising ingredient that protects sensitive teeth and keeps you comfortable during your treatment. Additionally, the customisable nature of professional whitening treatments prevents the product from coming into contact with soft tissues like your gums, lips, and tongue.

If your teeth are sensitive, please talk to us so that we can help you determine whether whitening is appropriate for you.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

If you want a brighter smile, we recommend whitening your teeth before you seek restorative work. Dental restorations do not whiten with teeth whitening systems and you can end up with a mismatched smile. Whitening your teeth first will allow us to match your dental restorations to your whitened teeth.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Sometimes, a simple teeth whitening procedure is all it takes to put the sparkle back into your smile.

If your staining or discolouration is resistant to whitening, however, we have other ways of improving the appearance of your teeth using cosmetic dentistry procedures such as veneers, bonding, or porcelain crowns. Call us to find out which of our services is right for you.

Pharmacy whitening kits are not customised to fit your teeth snugly. That means that whitening gel may leak onto your sensitive gum tissue and cause side effects. Many whitening toothpastes are abrasive and also cause sensitivity.

The strength of the whitening product is much lower than what you can get in a professional kit, meaning that you must use the product for a longer period of time and are still unlikely to get the results you can find in a professional product. Additionally, your results are not being monitored by the dentist you know and trust.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

We offer a range of cosmetic dentistry services such as veneers, porcelain crowns, bonding using tooth-coloured composite, and even Invisalign to straighten misaligned teeth.

All our of dentistry is done with esthetics in mind. We know that it's important that your teeth are both healthy and attractive.

If you'd like to find out which of our services can help you meet your goals, call our office to schedule your consultation.
